After refractive procedure
What should refractive patients remember postoperatively?
Postoperative monitoring is of great importance because it allows us to check the reaction of the eyes after the refractive procedure and be sure that everything is under control. The main goal for each eye is the refractive power recovery. Monitoring is performed by the surgeon ophthalmologist (follow-through).
Furthermore, it is extremely important, next 10 days after surgery, to focus on eye hygiene. Some useful tips and general guidelines are the following:
- Do not rub your eyes
- Be careful during shampoo
- Use sterile gauze for cleaning your eyes
- Exercise after 10 days
- Do not swim for the following 10 days
- Avoid using cosmetics (make up, mascara etc) during the following 15 days
- Use your eye drops regularly
- Avoid eye contact with dust
- In case you underwent PRK, do not remove your therapeutic contact lenses, as they will be removed from your physician when appropriate
However, the respective refractive surgeon will recommend you detailed postoperative treatment, depending on the refractive technique that has been chosen for you (PRK, LASIK), immediately after the laser surgical procedure.
