Monovision method
What exactly is Monovision technique in refractive surgery?
Monovision technique is used in laser refractive procedures when a candidate, apart from the distant vision correction, due to myopia, hyperopia or astigmatism, needs support with near vision, precisely because presbyopia appearance (when the crystalline, natural lens of the eye loses its elasticity, with adjustment ability difficulties while focusing on near objects. An individual that undergoes Monovision LASIK aims to have each eye corrected to a natural focus. More specifically one eye is corrected for near and the other for distant vision.
It is worth mentioning that Monovision refractive technique is not recommended for every refractive patient who faces presbyopia condition, as there are many who find it difficult to get used to the different adaptation ability of each eye. So before a candidate is subjected to Monovision refractive technique, it is essential to ‘try’ the condition with the help of contact lenses so as to be sure that he/ she can adapt vision postoperatively. Monovision LASIK is a ‘smart’ refractive method for people over 45, so as to get rid of eye spectacles and contact lenses.
